Victoria Riverside mill conversion with bespoke timber windows and doorsets manufactured by Timbermate UK for this Leeds regeneration project.

Timber Flush Casement Windows & Timber Doorsets for the Victoria Riverside Hunslet Mill Redevelopment

We were proud to contribute to one of Leeds’ most significant regeneration schemes — the transformation of the historic Hunslet and Victoria flax spinning mills into more than 350 high‑quality homes at Victoria Riverside.

The timber windows and doorsets for this project were manufactured and supplied by our sister company, Timbermate UK — part of the same group as Timber Mouldings Direct. Together, we provide a full range of timber solutions, from bespoke joinery for large‑scale developments to high‑quality mouldings supplied nationwide. Learn more at www.timbermateuk.co.uk.

Our involvement included the full site measure, manufacture, and supply of pre‑finished timber flush casement windows and bespoke timber doorsets across several of the mill buildings. Working within Grade II listed structures dating back to 1842 required precision, sensitivity, and a deep respect for the original architecture.

A Landmark Regeneration Project

The wider development — delivered by JM Construction (Leeds) Ltd and designed by BDA — forms part of the South Bank regeneration programme, a long‑term initiative aiming to double the size of Leeds city centre with thousands of new homes and jobs.

The mills had stood empty for over 40 years and were once close to demolition. Through careful planning and specialist craftsmanship, they have now been transformed into contemporary apartments, including rooftop penthouses with panoramic views across the Leeds skyline.

As BDA’s Managing Director Anthony Lupton noted:

“We are extremely proud to deliver this 5‑year regeneration project… one of the most stunning high-spec mill conversions through its innovative design and cutting-edge building solutions.”

JM Construction added:

“It’s been an incredible journey to bring these derelict mill buildings alive… merging modern touches with historical character.”

These statements reflect the scale and ambition of the project, which has earned multiple LABC Regional Building Excellence Awards.

Our Contribution: Bespoke Timber Windows & Doorsets for a Heritage Setting

Working on listed mill buildings presents unique challenges. No two openings are the same, and every detail must respect the building’s industrial heritage.

Our scope included:

  • Comprehensive site measurement across multiple mill elevations

  • Manufacture of bespoke timber flush casement windows

  • Manufacture of matching timber doorsets for internal and external use

  • Factory finishing for long‑lasting protection and consistent appearance

  • Heritage‑appropriate profiles and detailing

Each product was manufactured to exact dimensions, ensuring a precise fit within the irregular masonry openings typical of 19th‑century mill construction. The flush casement windows and timber doorsets delivered the clean, understated aesthetic required by the architects, while modern glazing and finishing systems provided excellent performance.

A Project We’re Proud to Support

Being part of a regeneration scheme of this scale — and one with such historical significance — is something we’re extremely proud of. Our timber windows and doorsets now form part of a development that blends Leeds’ industrial past with its modern growth, creating bright, airy living spaces that celebrate the original mill architecture.

We look forward to supporting more heritage, conservation, and regeneration projects across the UK with high‑quality, made‑to‑measure timber windows, doors, and mouldings.
